Embracing Self-Care and Productivity: My Business Retreat at the Viceroy, Downtown Chicago

This weekend, I took a much-needed step back from the daily grind to focus on my personal and professional rejuvenation during a self-imposed business retreat at the Viceroy in Downtown Chicago. This two-day escape provided me with the quiet, distraction-free environment I desperately needed to catch up and reset my focus. It’s amazing how self-care and productivity can beautifully coexist, and I’m here to share how that unfolded for me.

Finding My Sanctuary in Chicago

Choosing the Viceroy in Chicago for my retreat was no coincidence. Its relaxing ambiance and luxurious comforts created the perfect backdrop for deep work and thoughtful planning. As a business owner constantly juggling multiple tasks (while also carpooling to summer camps), finding a space where I could mentally and physically detach from my routine responsibilities was crucial. These two days and nights allowed me to not only catch up on pending work but also strategize for future challenges without the usual interruptions.

The Power of Self-Care

One of the most transformative aspects of my retreat was recognizing the importance of self-care, especially for women in business. In a world where we are often encouraged to push through exhaustion and put ourselves last, taking the time to acknowledge my limits and actively seek restoration was empowering. I want to emphasize to all women: asking for what you need isn’t a sign of weakness. It is a strategic move towards sustainability and towards your health.

My family's support, particularly my husband's encouragement, was instrumental in making this retreat possible. Coming home to a family that genuinely missed me reinforced the value of my time away. It was a reminder that taking time for oneself not only benefits you but also the people you love by returning a better version of yourself.

The Impact of Stepping Back

Retreating allowed me to focus more intensely than I would have in my regular setting. This focused time led to breakthroughs that a constantly connected environment rarely permits. (e.g. my new photography course that is slowly making it’s way into the world) Pulling back from everyday demands helped clarify my priorities and rejuvenate my enthusiasm for my work. It was such a success that I plan to integrate quarterly retreats, proving that sometimes, the best way to move forward is to momentarily step back.

A Call to Action for Self-Care

To everyone feeling overwhelmed by the demands of their personal or professional lives, consider a retreat like mine wherever you are. Whether it's just a weekend or a few days, taking this time can dramatically improve your clarity, productivity, and overall well-being. Remember, self-care is not just a luxury—it's an essential part of maintaining your happiness.
