It’s my first time what type of acting headshots do I need?

What fabulous photographs shall grace your portfolio, enticing directors to cast you as the next big sensation? Read on, budding thespian, and prepare for your close-up with these tips.

  • Don't forget to seek your agent's sage advice! With their industry know-how and keen insights, they'll guide you towards booking even more dream gigs.

  • Don't have an agent to guide you yet? Here's the scoop: Aim for a neat, fuss-free look, with a mix of faces to play with. For your acting portfolio, keep in mind two key styles: Film and Television, and Commercials. Commercial portfolios are a bit more bold and upbeat with a smile. Film and Television headshots tend to be on the more serious side with eye contact and a little or no smile.

  • Step into the spotlight with an eye-catching, close-up headshot that stands out among the tiny online thumbnails casting directors skim through. Don't risk fading into the background with a full-body pose - let your captivating face take center stage for a winning first impression.

What do I wear?

Not to worry our team has you covered. When you book your session you will receive access to our studio’s comprehensive styling and outfit guide. Don’t forget to steam your clothes prior to our session and come to the studio wearing your first outfit.

What background will you use ?

We offer a lot of diversity in background choices in our studio. We have the two option of exposed brick (white painted brick, and standard brick). We also offer black. When you arrive we can help you pick out the best background based on your wardrobe choices and headshot needs.

What else do I need to be ready?

A few last minute reminders before our session:

  • Plan to arrive ten minutes early. If you are late, you may lose your spot. There are no refunds and no rescheduling if you are late. Be on time, be prepared and it will be awesome.

  • Come dressed in your first wardrobe choice and bring TWO additional looks with you. Please come with your hair styled and your makeup as you usually do it. Our makeup artist will help touch you up so that you are photo ready.

  • A fresh manicure and fresh colored hair if you do color treatment is recommended.

  • I don't recommend spray tans since they can tend to look a bit orange in pictures.

  • Get plenty of rest before your shoot. Increasing your water intake and avoiding alcohol for a few days before can be helpful as well so that you don't look puffy.

  • If you have any questions about your session or need any advice or help leading up to the date, email jordan@emilycummingsphotography.com or text 312.600.5151 we are here for you!
